Diwali 2015 – what you need to know about tonight’s celebrations

This year’s Diwali celebrations come to a crescendo in Leicester this evening.
Belgrave Road will be shut from 5.30pm until after the festivities end at around 9.30pm.
During that time the celebrations will include ‘stage entertainment’ at Cossington Street Recreation Ground and a spectacular fireworks display.
Leicester’s Wheel of Light will also be open during the celebrations and is set to stay in Belgrave Road until November 15.
Thousands of people from across the UK and Europe are expected to attend the event tonight, which marks the start of the Hindu New Year.

5.30pm Full closure of Belgrave Road
6pm Stage entertainment at Cossington Street Recreation Ground
6pm Ram Lila opens on Belgrave Road. BBC Bus on Cossington Ground opens.
8pm Firework display begins
8.20pm Firework display ends
9.30pm Belgrave Road re-opens
